ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR PERFECT COLORING

Basic Tips

Before you dive in, here are a few simple tips to help you get started and make the most of every page – whether you're new to coloring, picking it back up, or already a pro.

Pick Your Tools

Crayons, colored pencils, markers, gel pens – it’s all up to you! You can even try mixing tools on the same page. See a list of art tools here.

Test Your Tools First

Before you dive in, try your colors on the test page provided or one of the other intro pages of your book so you know how your tool reacts to the paper. Wet medium especially markers, brush pens or water-based ink can bleed a lot!

Use the Bleed Sheet

Always use a bleed sheet underneath the page you are coloring. This will help stop colors from bleeding through and messing up the next masterpiece! Even heavy crayon coloring or gel pens can press through the paper. I’ve included a special bleed sheet at the beginning section of the book. Cut it out and slip it behind the page you're coloring. If the bleed sheet gets too messy, you can use some cardstock or even an old folder instead of the provided sheet. And, if you are using a very wet medium like markers, brush pens or water-based ink, you might want to use two sheets or card stock.

TIP: Once you have finished with that messy bleed sheet, you might cut out the interesting parts for your next collage!

There’s No Wrong Way in Coloring

There are no rules here, just enjoy yourself. Color outside the lines if you want. Color your cats pink or your flowers polka-dots, just go for it!

Keep It Clean

If you’re using your hands to blend colors, keep a damp cloth nearby to clean your fingers before moving on to the next section.

Relieve the Stress

Coloring can be a quiet way to relax and unwind. Take your time, breathe deeply, and let each page be your happy little escape.

Take Breaks

Coloring is like a mini vacation for your brain. But if your hands get tired or your eyes feel blurry, take a stretch or a sip of something cozy – your page will be right there waiting for you.

Flip for a Fresh View

Sometimes turning your book sideways or upside-down helps you spot areas you missed or gives you new ideas for colors. Try it!

Show It Off!

When you’re done, carefully tear out your favorite pages and display them proudly – on the fridge, in a frame, or gifted to someone special.
