I’m Karen Parry the artist and designer behind Kaz and Kika, a creative studio where I explore the playful side of everyday life through illustration and surface design.
My work features bold color, expressive lines, and rhythmic pattern – drawing inspiration from the spaces we live in, the objects we love, and the small moments that bring us joy.
I grew up in Australia, where the intense light and vibrant landscapes trained my eye early on. I began my creative career as a photographer, then transitioned into graphic design, which gave me a deep love of composition, typography, and visual storytelling. Over the years, I’ve lived and worked in London, Sydney, Berlin, San Francisco, and now New York City – each place adding its own influence on my style.
Kaz and Kika is the heart of my art practice. Through it, I license illustration and pattern designs for home décor, stationery, fabric, and more – alongside publishing projects like this coloring book. I also run a graphic design studio called Black Graphics, and I’ve taught photography, design, and typography in Sydney, San Francisco, and New York.
Now I’m based in Manhattan, and my art blends urban energy with the vibrant colors of my Australian roots.

Kaz and Kika was created in 2022 as a home for my artwork, pattern, and illustration designs.
Kaz comes from my childhood nickname – a shortened version of Karen.
Kika is my much-loved cat and trusted studio sidekick. Her name’s short for “kitty kat” – and it just fit, because she loved batting around those little foam soccer balls. She was born in a vacant lot in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in 2017, rescued with her two siblings, and came to live with me in Manhattan when she was just three months old. Sweet and skittish in equal measure, she keeps me company while I work.
